The following is excerpted from the NDP Clan code of conduct:
---------
The general rule of thumb should be, “Don’t do anything that will affect the enjoyment of the game for other players.” From the perspective of your opponent, this can further be boiled down to, “If I don’t have a chance to kill you, I’m not having fun.”
Mandatory
Do not kill spawns.
Do not kill typists.
Do not kill people who are away from their keys.
Do not kill people who are lying down.
Do not use Invisibility.
Do not use the Amp.
Judgement Call
Do not camp in any place for too long.
(Sometimes you get stuck in a spot it's hard to get out. Understood. But DON'T be the guy on Ariza who just camps on the plateau killing all the spawners, or the guy on HealPod camping by the ASMD.)
---------
Wet_Gunpowder made these observations:
In the days of old, great clans came and went: but one thing all good players have in common is the code of conduct. The code was passed by word of mouth (or rather by typing or ICQ). Newer players were immediately spotted by their use of the amp and spawn/type kills. This code was simply known by the respect passed to other players new and old. In fact some of the better players would regularly show newbies how ineffective the amp and invisibility were: newbies continued to die alot.
Things changed a bit with the introduction of Unreal Tournament: the introduction of many who never played Unreal - and who may not have had a code in whatever game they played.
Sometimes spawn/type kills are inevitable: like when you toss 6 grenades down a hall in Deck16; or even when someone is shooting at you behind someone who has just spawned.
Another unwritten rule (that some practice and some dont) is to not shoot anyone without a weapon (not meaning the dispersion pistol). (Although if someone shoots at me with the pistol they tend to respawn quickly).
These comments pretty well sum up what is expected when you play on the GGD servers. These ideas were developed for and about Unreal. As Wet_Gunpowder notes, things changed with UT and have changed again with UT2003. However, the basic ideas are the same. The Deviants hold to these 'old-skool' concepts of sportsmanship, ethics, and fair play.
If you are being disrespectful of the other players in the game - word or deed -
don't act surprized if you get your ass kicked off the servers.
